Related Vocaloid software and websites
From Vocaloidism Wiki
The following listed below are software and/or websites that help promote the grassroots movement in creating Vocaloid-related productions.

[edit] ニコニコ動画 "Nico Nico Douga"
Nico Nico Douga (ニコニコ動画 lit. "Smile Video") is a Japanese video-hosting website.
Nico Nico Douga hosts the vast majority of vocaloid videos, and is home to most of the Japanese Vocaloid fan base. Most of the vocaloid videos found on YouTube are reuploaded from Nico Nico Douga.
[edit] ピアプロ "Piapro"
A website developed by Cypton themselves to host Vocaloid-related content. User-submitted files can include music, images, or text (generally lyrics).
Piapro is like a creative commons, where users can take others' works and use them for their own purposes, such as creating Vocaloid videos. There are also collaboration groups, where several users come together to work on a single project (usually a Vocaloid song + PV.) Piapro is providing many of the songs for Project DIVA, and images for mobile phone skins.
[edit] Miku Miku Dance
Miku Miku Dance, also known as MMD, is a freeware animation program that lets users choreograph built-in 3D Vocaloid models. Created by the Vocaloid Promotional Video Project, it comes in single- and multi-model versions, the latter upgraded to version 5.0 in July 2009.
[edit] Functionality
- MikuMikuDance comes pre-packaged with everything one would need to make a typical video. The character models are a series of poseable "bones" that can be rotated on the X, Y, and Z axes. There are also several facial parameters that can be set, including ones for mouth, eyes, and eyebrows.
- If the desired animation requires more than just Vocaloids, the user can use accessories (.x, .vac files) in the form of props or backgrounds. There is also the ability to import background images and .wav sound files.
- Animations in MMD are done through frames, just like any other process. The user creates several important "key" frames and MMD fills in the gaps between them. If the user wishes to merely copy the movements of an existing video, they can import the avi and MMD will extrapolate and program the proper animations and camera positions.
- When a work is in progress, MMD animations are saved as .pmm files. If the work is complete, the animation can be exported as an .avi file with adjustable size and compression rate.
- In addition to the character models, there are plenty of other features for MMD. Users can import/export pose (.vpd) and motion (.vmd) data to use in other projects.
- Many MMD users include custom-made materials in their videos, ranging from accessories to models. One of the more popular ways to create these materials is through Metasequoia and/or PMD Editor. These files are often put on personal sites or public file hosting to share with the rest of the Vocaloid community.
[edit] Regional Issues
- MMD does not use Unicode, and thus can run into problems on non-Japanese machines. If your computer does not translate non-Unicode programs to Japanese, some of the interface and files will show up as gibberish. Changing the computer's region to Japanese or using AppLocale tends to rectify this problem, but the latter option does not always work as intended. Additionally, if there were any files before the change of region, they will be unchanged and unrecognizable to MMD, often resulting in a program crash.
- MMD Multi Model Editon was converted to full English when Ver. 4.03 came out.
[edit] Miku Miku Dance Cup
- Alternatively known as "MMD Cup," is a public Iron Chef-style competition to create MMD Videos using one or more of the themes chosen by the tournament organizers and announced beforehand. The process of selecting winners is done through a MyList on NicoNicoDouga. Currently, there have been two competitions; the first in August 2008, and the 2nd (Spring&Special) in February 2009. The 3rd Cup started on July 2009 and is still ongoing.
[edit] Miku Miku Voice
MikuMikuVoice or mostly known as MMD is a software programmed by the same person as MMD. This is a program that can read .wav files. The program reads the .wav files and the user types in the lyrics. It is just like Vocaloid but without a voice. Users can output the lyrics to either a Vocaloid Sequence file (.vsq file) or a MIDI file. The program works the singer to sing the song more like the original singer.
- All projects on the program have been stopped because of MMD's required fixes.
[edit] Doujin Games
[edit] VocaListener
VocaListener is a new software developed for the Vocaloid Engine which samples a voice track, and places those same expressions on the Vocaloid track. This results in creating extremely realistic singing by the Vocaloid.
